Sammio Spyder – 50s style sports car

The Sammio Spyder is a Triumph Herald based re-body that recalls the fantastic fiberglass body specials from the 1950s mostly utilizing flat head four cylinder Fords. There was an amazing variety of these specials as evidenced by the fantastic 1950s Specials site. The Sammio isn’t a direct copy of any particular car but could certainly be mistaken for something created in the 1950s. Many like the Ashley, Convair, Falcon among others offered very attractive body work that could be added to an old Ford Eight or a Morris Minor chassis. The Sammio is similarly attractive but the shipping costs for a body and the low availability of Herald donors probably wouldn’t make it a cost effective proposition in North America but it would be interesting to see if someone could adapt a Locost style square tube frame chassis underneath. The more common Triumph Spitfire chassis wouldn’t work without extra strengthening as they partially rely on the body panels for strength unlike the Herald.
