This Mitsubishi Debonair is a new on to me. Looks slightly reminiscent of a scaled down full size Chrysler. I’d expect a full, proper restoration would not be cost effective but a resto-mod with some more modern compnents swapped while keeping the vintage look might be the best option. None the less a very interesting and rare car. And check out the first picture – the seller has a red Lada Niva that looks to new to be in the US!
Listed here is a rarely-seen-outside-of-Japan Mitsubishi Debonair from 1965. This was was imported by a local business man sometime in the early 1970’s. After his passing the car was passed on to a friend of the family who cherished for a few years until some brake parts were needed. Remember, this was during the pre-internet days and locating parts proved to be impossible. Even Mitsubishi Motors of America didn’t have any ideas back then as they didn’t believe Mitsubishi had even built such a car! The car was donated to a local museum and stored outside until I purchased it in 2001. It’s been stored inside since then and has not seen daylight again until today when I took these pictures.
Condition : Needs a complete restoration. Rust is minimal and manly of the surface type. The holes you see in the floor board are from the missing body plugs (rubber type). I have removed most of the stainless trim and tail lights which are included. The dash is semi-disconnected and the gages were removed but all bits are intact. The engine turns over and the carburetors are in a box along with all the other parts. You can see in the pictures there are parts removed from the car. I have everything as far as I can tell. The glass is all intact and in good shape and the car rolls fine.
This is a unique car and I’m more concerned about it going to a good home at this point. Please ask questions, do your homework and please – only bid if your serious about taking on a project. I have a clear Washington title and can assist loading the car on a trailer if needed. I travel the country from time to time and may be able to deliver the car for the cost of fuel but you must contact me prior to the end of this auction to discuss the possibility. I also have used shipping companies with very affordable rates for non running cars and would pass that info along if your interested.
